Katie and Thomas meet in DC at a Jazz in the Garden event hosted by their graduate program. Thomas’s first impression of Katie is good looking, great smile, and vivacious. The two do not realize they were in the same program and have a class together that semester. Katie’s first impression of Thomas is fun, intelligent and incredibly cute; she always makes sure to sit where can see him during class!

Thomas asks Katie to marry him at the National Gallery of Art on November 3, 2016, exactly one day and year before their wedding. He asks Katie’s parents for their blessing nearly a month before and Katie’s Dad accidentally spills the beans to her! But Katie puts it far from her mind, convincing herself it is not happening any time soon. As they arrived at the National Gallery of Art, it occurred to her that maybe Thomas is going to propose. They circle room after room with no proposal, or ring box for that matter, in sight. Katie thinks she has completely misread the situation. As she tries to hide her disappointment, he takes her by surprise, drops to one knee in an empty gallery, and pops the question! It happens in front of a piece by one of their favorite painters, Winslow Homer’s “Breezing Up (a Fair Wind)”.

They are excited to share life together as best friends.
